Water Logged

Physical coming up? Yes, it's that time of year and my doctor says my creatine  levels are elevated. Drink more water, avoid salt, and large amounts of protein. I read heavy amounts of exercise the day before a urine test can throw those levels out of wack.  Take care of your kidneys, I know people who have been on dialysis and have had transplants.  I'm going to try and get myself back into good numbers. You can too. Start today. We have lots to live for. I added a link here too that describes creatine. For now, have a great day and a better one tomorrow https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-creatine/art-20347591 Here is a link that will give you images and ways to up that water consumption. I know I don't drink enough and will try to do better.  https://www.wellmark.com/blue/nutrition/infused-water-decked-out-and-delicious

How To Cut Fruit

Is there a good way to cut up cantaloupe or any other fruit for that matter?  While on a Texas vacation it was pretty warm. We wanted a cooler menu for the week, so I tried cutting up a watermelon the way one link showed how to do it. I have to say it worked, but keep in mind if you do it according to the link below you will have a juicy mess on your hands so prepare it on a cookie sheet with sides. What they had me do is cut the ends off and then peel the watermelon with a knife. It takes a little practice but hey, the results work. I like the cut the fruit into sticks video linked below also. Oh and don't you just love it how something you've looked at seems to start popping up. I also included that link that shows fruit and vegetable carvings. If you have any tips, I would love to hear them. For now, have a great day and a better one tomorrow. https://youtu.be/Vcy16ikee8w https://youtu.be/9nztuyJ3dOE https://www.google.com/search?q=the+best+way+to+cut+up+cantaloupe&clien...

Line Dance

So when you're retired you need to find things to do right?  Now this next link isn't one that was in my bookmarks but I had to share it and that might happen from time to time.  I recently started taking line dance lessons and when you are thrown in to a group of people that have been doing it for a long time, they grab you and stick you in the middle of the class. I thought what?  I need to be in the front because I need to see the teacher. Wrong!  What they want you to do is watch other people's feets and when you're in the middle of the room and you're dancing, turning towards all four walls, you got to know what you're doing, lol.  And guess what if you mess up, you just hold still till you can catch up.  This video I'm showing you is the one I most comfortable with and now I'm sharing it with you.  P.S. it's good exercise. For now, have a great day and a better one tomorrow. https://youtu.be/mOJNH_8ojHY

Did Someone Say Party?

Here we go again. Are you looking for something and I always seem to fall back to Martha Stewart's website. She really has it going on doesn't she? Her link talks about salads but it goes right hand in hand with an easy charcuterie board for your next gathering. So I'm going to start with the first link that I bookmarked and then go back through because I want to find an easy idea for gathering and small bites is going to be perfect.  Salty, sweet, lots of cheeses, fruit and breads, plus chocolates and of course cocktails and mocktails for the kids and adults too. Here are some of the sites that I bookmarked for previous occasions. Take a look you might find something that you like. Oh and there's a trader Joe's linked below it seems to be one of my favorite places to peruse.  There are also templates out there that you can use to lay down on your boards to give you an idea of how to place your goodies. And let's not forget about Hy-Vee.  Their Seasons books hav...

Bloody Mary anyone?

Who doesn't enjoy a great bloody Mary? I have had so many different variations of it but I feel that the best ones have a nice spicy kick to them with that peppery aftertaste. I'm not saying spicy to the point where you're on fire for the next couple days. But I'm always searching for another good one if you have any good recipes please throw them my way. There are a lot of pictures out there with people vying for first place because they have the best bloody Mary and some of them are downright lunch-worthy. I've seen them with cornish hens chicken legs sliders cheese bacon celery you name it but I love a good spicy tomato juice. Heck of Virgin bloody Mary is all I would need. I could skip the alcohol and mocktails are perfect for those who don't like to consume alcohol. Anyway here's a link for one of the bookmarks I had from long ago.   For now have a great day and a better one tomorrow. https://www.foodiecrush.com/the-best-bloody-mary-recipe-bloody-mary-b...

Wally Park

Do you struggle to find places safe enough to park your care in when you travel by air?I have parked several places look for the cheapest and most secure places to park my car when I travel. If I'm in the Quad City Iowa, Illinois, I have a couple of options. I can take a Lyft ride or leave my car at the airport. Moline International(MLI). It's okay to Lyft if it's early to and from the airport, but to catch a ride home after 8pm on a week night is almost impossible. I know because I have tried it.  Let's talk about flying from a little larger airport closer to me. Chicago O'Hare (ORD). I have left my car at hotels but my favorite place is Wally Park. It's a secure place to keep your car and they will shuttle you to and from the airport. They will baby your car while you are gone and for a little extra green they will wash it when you get there to pick it up. Heres the link https://www.wallypark.com/ Well, I just now went out to their site because it was one of m...

Lose it!

Okay folks. It's getting nice out I love in Illinois and I know it's warm but you could always find a mall to walk in. Go work out, lose some weight, live longer. I love to eat and sometimes it's junk food but I know that my health is important and I should take better care of myself. I even threw in an exercise for your feet. My dogs get tired too.  That is why I bookmarked a lot of these. Try some or try none but get out there and be you. I threw in a salad recipe to boot. I can't guarantee how long these articles are going to be up but for now they are working. If you try any of these please let me know. Skirt Steak

I have always wanted to try making skirt steak,  but then you hear people not wanting to fix it because of how tough it is,  plus being a cheaper cut of meat. They talk about not grilling it because it dries it out. Since I don't have a grill I decided to try a recipe for a different one instead the one below, but the one below was in my bookmarks so I thought that I would post this and try it next. What I did is I took a one and a half pound skirt steak and I marinated in oil soy sauce honey salt and pepper garlic powder and a little chili flake. I put it back in the refrigerator to marinate for about 2 hours. I then heated up a cast iron skillet and then seared it on each side for approximately 3 minutes and took it off to rest for about 5. It sure looked like the picture but the inside was still somewhat very rare. Granted they say that it's best to make this, you know, on the rare side but it was still pretty tough. I even made a wonderful chimichurri sauce for it.  I...

Replace Netflix?

I like watching Netflix just as much as the next person, but with the rising prices, I think I have to choose between some of the things I really want and some of the things I really need. I want Netflix but I don't need it.  In 2016 I found some links that are supposed to help you get the most out of Netflix but I'm not sure I've never tried them so today I'm going to post these links and take them out of my bookmarks.  After doing that I'm going to start going through it and looking at all the ways to get the most bang for my buck. Have a look at the secret codes and see if they help you at all. I'm still in the process of deciding whether I want to change movie stations or stay with Netflix. What do you think I should do? For now have a great day and a better one tomorrow. https://fox4kc.com/news/these-secret-netflix-codes-will-unlock-hidden-categories/ https://www.tvguide.com/galleries/15-netflix-original-series-1091421/

Tea for Two?

Yes, teas are good for you.  I will give you two reasons.  First I found out that my bone density scan came back as having osteoporosis. What are you telling me?, I asked. I was told I am at high risk for a to left hip fracture. The cause?  Well, what I got from the conversation was that there are two things on my diet that I should have been concerned with. One.....carbonated drinks, what? Mainly phosphoric acid I guess. It keeps mold out of sugary drinks too?  I never paid any attention to that. I was young, who cares?, and the second was my salt intake. All I can say is oh oh.  That's when I started researching on the Internet. Who doesn't self search for answers?  I started looking at all the ways to help my bones become stronger outside of maintenance medications from pharmaceutical companies. I currently don't take any any would like to avoid it. I stopped drinking colas and pretty much anything carbonated and lowered my salt intake and am working on ...

Kind of a Bucket list?

Every once in a while you come across something on the Internet that catches your eye. This was no exception and I'd like to cook, so I gave this a read. I have never been to Tokyo and I might not ever get there but New Orleans is here in the United States and I could give it a try. Their little clip reads "(When in NOLA, go for the trifecta: a fried oyster po’boy, spicy Cajun gumbo and, of course, the world’s greatest beignets at Café du Monde.)"  I doubt if I'll ever be able to travel out of the country again but the foods here sound wonderful. I have tried the fresh poke in Hawaii and it was wonderful. There are so many different foods I haven't tried and if I ever get to other parts of the world I'll be sure to try anything out of the ordinary. Lobster rolls in Maine... I could put that on my bucket list. Even though you might not be able to travel to these places take a look and read this because you never know you might be the one be able to make it tast...

Cinco de Mayo

Well, instead of breaking out the bookmarks today I'm going to use a link instead of trying to find a bookmark for today because I want to do something a little special. I want to stay home and have dinner because it's raining outside and I want to make some homemade enchiladas. They always turn out good but I do use store-bought flour tortillas. Today I'm making my own looking for an easy recipe and the recipe below just fit the bill. I've never made tortillas and these came out just fine I'm not going to say too much today because I have things to do, but I'm telling you my friend said these look great. Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone. Who doesn't like this kind of food? I'll pair it with the margarita for dinner.  For now have a great day and a better one tomorrow. https://thecafesucrefarine.com/best-ever-homemade-flour-tortillas/#wprm-recipe-container-28318

Artichokes

For years,  I have gone through the produce section looking at vegetables, wondering how do you cook that or what exactly is that. Well, a few years back I finally got the nerve to start grabbing vegetables and looking them up and creating dishes out of them. The artichoke was no different I had no idea what to do with it it looked weird but then one day I was standing in the store and someone was picking them up and I walked right up to them and said okay, how are you going to prepare that?  That person just told me that they boil it in water for about an hour and then scrape the underneath of the leaves off onto their teeth. Thank you for the information I said.  What the heck was that conversation all about? Boil it and scrape it off onto your teeth okay here we go. So I read many sites on how to prepare an artichoke and after a while I became familiar with either cutting this stem off and cutting most of the tip off of the artichoke and either steaming it or boiling i...

Christmas in the 3rd Ward

One year we went to Milwaukee's downtown Christmas celebration. It was the first Friday weekend in December in their third ward district. It's their annual lighting of the tree event. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn which was very close to the festivities. Friends, food, drink, and fireworks made the evening a memorable event. https://historicthirdward.org/experience/events/christmas-in-the-ward/ https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/mkemdgi-hilton-garden-inn-milwaukee-downtown/
